G'day Friends, my name is Ian Campbell and I'm the author of the book, "Fish For Farm Dams". I've spent more than 30 years in and around the water learning all about native fish. I've studied them in tanks and aquaculture as well as in their natural environment. Fish are one of my passions in life. I also enjoy teaching and have been at it for some years now.
I have been building aquatic systems since the age of 15, starting as an apprentice plumber, building the seal tanks at Taronga Zoo in Sydney.
At age 18 I completed my dive master course, which helped me understand the behaviour of aquatic organisms.
At age 21, I was farming organic garlic and running a yabby hatchery.
I have been educated through Avondale College, University of Western Sydney and University of Newcastle to gain valuable information on sustainable agricultural systems.
In 2001 I was priveledged to build and collect data for experiments on biological filtration, conducted by the president of the World Aquaponics Society and president of the World Aquaculture Engineering Society at NSW FIsheries Aquaculture Research Centre.
Additional experience I have gained includes working out at sea, farming snapper, breeding and designing systems for KOI, building RAS systems for silver perch, help design urban Aquaponics systems, design and build Aquaponics systems for schools and organisations in rural communities, working for Fisheries and more.
Since 2003 I have been teaching Aquaculture, Marine Studies, Conservation Land Management and Aquaponics at TAFE and other institutions as well as privately. I also perform educational pirate shows as "Captain Crackers", teaching kids about the importance of marine conservation and protecting our oceans and sea life.
The main reason I wrote the book, "Fish For Farm Dams" is because in the past few years I have heard hundreds of people say things like, "I put fish in my dam but the birds just got them all". I asked them what they did to prepare the dam for the fish, and usually the answer is, "nothing"!
"Fish For Farm Dams" is designed to give you solutions to help save your fish by following a few basic and simple steps.
I believe it is the best and most practical guide you're likely to find, especially about raising fish in farm dams in Australia, and how to get the most value for your time and money.
